What is Pro Bono
WHAT IS PRO BONO
The term pro bono is derived from the Latin expression pro bono publico, meaning activity undertaken
in the public interest.
In its essence, pro bono means advice and assistance given by a lawyer, voluntarily and free of charge, for the common good. In this sense, the exercise of pro bono activities is a direct expression of the social function of the legal profession, enshrined in Article 8 of the Italian Attorneys’ Code of Ethics.
Everyone can contribute to the activities of Pro Bono Italy by joining our constantly expanding network.
Pro Bono Italia counts, to date, 32 members, and can rely on a network of over 750 people, including lawyers and law firms, NGOs and Third Sector Entities, legal clinics, clearinghouses and representatives of some important companies.
Pro Bono Italia fosters an open dialogue and cooperation between lawyers, non-profit organizations, clearinghouses and legal clinics operating nationally and abroad.
The aim of our projects is to promote the legal culture and to help people to orient themselves in the fields of law.
